Oprah and O'Reilly

Ask:
Anyone see Oprah today? She had a "town meeting" with her guest Bill O'Reilly from Fox News. Love him or hate him, I thought it was a pretty interesting interview, in the sense that I do believe this country is in trouble, morally. Freedoms to do as we wish does have a price. His stance is that we as a nation need to start educating ourselves in world events, stop being so wishy washy on tough subjects but instead make more informed and concrete decisions, all of which to better protect our kids' futures.

Did anyone see it? What are your thoughts?
Answer:

I didn't see it, but I like him and tend to agree with much of what he says. He is gruff about a lot of his opinions, but the words strike a cord with me.
Answer:

I haven't finished watching it yet, but what I've gotten so far is that we need to take a look at our morals.

I don't think he's saying we should ban rap music or horror movies, but more that today's morals (or the lack there of) are why we have these things in the first place. If we would take a stand and tell hollywood that we don't want these things, then maybe they would stop!

I also agree that we need to educate ourselves more on politics and what is going on the rest of the world. I am guilty of not doing that. I get so wrapped up in my kids that I don;t take the time to watch any news or do any research to find out what is going on. I rely on my Mom to tell me what's going on in the world (she's pretty good at keeping me up to speed).

I can't wait to finish watching it!!

I think this is a majority, not just you. However, at least you want to know more.

I think what hit home the most to me is when he said that we have troops over in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting the good fight and we are over here COMPLETELY oblivious to everything else going on in the world. It's really a scarry thought if you think about it isn't it?

If we all just stayed more in tune with world events and became united on the home front, like he said, we (the U.S) would be unbeatable. However, we are so divded right now, that we are vulnerable again to more attacks!
Answer:

For the most part we can only be as educated as the news tells us. Certain networks support certain politicians and political parties and only give us half the story or a certain spin on the story.

I only learned about Darfur in the last year and those people have been tortured and slaughtered for how many years.

I agree with his stance on what should be done with child molesters. My only complaint about O'Reilly is that when he interviews someone he doesn't shut up and let them speak. He constantly interrupts.
Answer:

I saw most of it. I was glad to see Oprah have a conservative on her show since she has seemed to favor the left a little bit too much. I agreed with most of O'Reilly's points, but I don't really think that we fit two categories... traditionalists and the other category (I can't remember what he called it). It's not as simplistic as that. However, I was glad to see some traditional values defended. I'm not sure Bill O'Reilly is the greatest voice for the Republican Party - even he admits he's "not a very nice guy".
Answer:

I didn’t get to see the episode but it is refreshing to see Oprah having guest like conservative commentator like Mr. O’Reilly on her show.
Answer:

I watched it but not really, I was sick and sleep through portions of it. I dont' but the two camps either. I know a lot of my republican friends think I'm one of them and my democrat friends think I'm one of them. it's funny when I have the hard cores over at the same time. they are so entertaining. they always get mad at me for not being one or the other, why i don't know. altough I think I lean left.
