Ask:
What do you do to organize all the little pieces that come with kids toys? We have Fisher price, weebles, barbies, Bratz, Polly Pockets, Kitchen stuff, Medical Stuff, Car stuff... I have them all in seperate containers but the kids get into them and they end up all over the house or dumped out on the floor. Any idea? I have them all put in sererate baskets on shelves in our play area.
Answer:
I use small bins or those stacking drawes. I am neurotic about them being separate, everyone makes fun of me. But, if they aren't, I am the one who ends up looking for the missing one. I like to be able to say that the little people are in the little people drawer, the cars are in the car drawer......
Answer:
That is how I am, Little people in the Little People basket, cars in the car basket, but it is driving me insane. I am the only one who goes around and sorts out the 200 pieces of everything we have in this house. I am finding I don't have the time anymore. The pieces are out numbering me. I am maybe thinking some of the pieces have to go...
Answer:
maybe put half of your "little pieces" toys away for a while, and let the kids play with the rest. then swap them out when they're bored of them.

How old are your kids?? Seems to me if they are old enough to have those kind of toys, they are old enough to put things back where they belong. If they don't they should lose those toys for a while. Make them pick up one box before they are allowed to get out another box.
Another solution - if the kids aren't worried about it - why are you?? Don't stress over every little thing. There are too many big things to waste stress on!
My 8 yr old DS does an okay job of putting things back where they are supposed to be now but we go through about twice a year and dump everything out and resort it to get rid of stuff he isn't playing with and to sort into the right places. I help a little but it's his job for the most part. Allow your child more control over their own things and you may be surprised at what ideas they come up with for staying organized.

B][/b]I do home daycare and have some large clear tubs out for the F.P. Pirate/Castle stuff etc. together. Another clear tub of the F.P. people/house items/cars, etc. together. I even have a big tub next to the kitchen with dishes, food, etc. The larger tubs make it easier for them to put things away. Its too hard for them to remember constantly where each little thing goes, even though they do clean up. Now I do have a separate shelf of smaller buckets of put togethers, etc., and they take that bucket out and play with it and put it back in it. Every now and then while I am playing with them, I will sit and go through the buckets and put some little things back where they belong. It's not worth it, worrying where everything is all the time. They certainly don't!

Around here, they all go back in their box or they go away! My kids are 4,5,8 & 9, but them have been doing this for 3 years so I know it works. Puzzles get stored this way too. I cut the picture out & tape it on the inside of the box so they can see what's in there. There are larger tubs underneath the bottom shelf for Lincoln Logs, Legos and Little People.

This is exactly what I do. I have half the toys in the toy room in there own bins and the other half stored in the basement, I switch out when they get bored. But me ds knows when we cleans up there is a place for everything.

Wow -- you are awesome! I love the way you have put the game boxes on their ends. I have them stacked on top of each other right now and the kids always want the game/puzzle on the bottom. They always seem to pull everything off to get to that bottom one! You've given me great inspiration!

I'm anal about pieces staying together. My boys know they can only take out one toy with little pieces at a time. I use bins or sometimes even just gallon size ziplock bags to corral little pieces and keep them together. Sometimes both. If I have a big bin, and fill it with say Lincoln Logs, then I might also have a large ziploc with all the people that go with it, in the bin as well.
I have to say, we have toys from 10 years ago that still have all their pieces, so it works for us. I also use baggies for board games, to keep the deck of cards or playing pieces, altogether.
