fish choice

Ask:
I'd like to try some different fish. We like salmon. I also like fish sandwiches but I'm trying to get away from the breaded part of it.
Which do you prefer? Cod or Talapia. I also would be looking for a low fat sauce or marinade for it. Any suggestions? TIA
Answer:

I like tilapia. That is a more meatier fish.It has a stronger taste.Butter and thyme over that is good.

Salmon is good with old bay seasoning, dill, salt, pepperand a squeeze of lemon juice right out of a bottle of it.

I buy cheap pollack fish and put it in foil with a pat of butter, salt, pepper and dill and top with a couple slices of tomato, onion and potato slices.

All of them I bake.

I do make other fish but these are our favorites.

HTH...
Answer:

Cod is thick and flakey and tilapia is thin and sort of like catfish. Both aren't strong if they have a fishy smell throw away it's bad!! They are so versatile. I like to take cod fish place it in a baking dish or aluminum lined cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray then. mix some Italian bread crumbed with some crumbled cooked bacon put on top then drizzle with melted butter and bake until done. I'm here in maryland so we are big on our seafood. old bay goes on most everything. With tilapia I usually bake it with some old bay on top. If you like a meaty fish mahi mahi delicious grilled.

That is so funny how people have different things in different places.

Our tilapia is about 3/4 inch thick. And our cod it super thin here.I buy them both prepackaged.Maybe that makes the difference?

Oh and for the smell I meant after the tilapia is cooked now raw.Yes if it smells don't cook it icky!
