This is a spin-off from the organizational tip thread about how getting more sleep can make you more organized (and thinner).
I have tried it, and here is what I have found:
I am happiest with at least 8 hours of sleep a night. My kids get up early (6 or sometimes, argh, earlier than that). So I need to be in bed by ten the latest. Hard? YES. Those evening hours are my "free time", my chance to "get things done". Yeah- but it seems like sitting in front of the computer was the only thing I ever got done. Really- who wants to start a big decluttering or scrapbook project at 9 at night?
So, for a couple of months I have been making a big effort to get more sleep. That means walking away from the computer by 9:30 at the latest. On the days I am successful, I feel SO much better the next morning. I don't have that nagging tired feeling. I have more patience with the kids, and consequently they are happier and better behaved, and so guess what? I can usually sneak in a project or two during the day. And that leaves me a couple of hours at night to sit and read or internet surf without feeling guilty.
When the time change came, I knew my kids would be getting up at 5 instead of 6, so I went to bed for two nights at 8:30! I haven't felt that good in years. More sleep- definitely worth it, anyway you can get it, IMO.

I've tried the early bed time but my little one has a time all her own. so hopefully that will change soon.

I think I have some sort of sleep disorder I just can't go to sleep b4 11 pm or sometimes later. Its really bothering me. Now DS (now 9 mos.) and still not sleeping tru the night ARGHH!! It has made things worst. DH goes to works from 10am - 9pm. So theres no need to wake up early and DD is homeschooled so we don't wake up early.
But I feel happier and like I get more things done when I do wake up early.
How do you change such bad habits???
Answer:
I wish I could do that- I always have had trouble sleeping (Can't fall asleep and only sleep for short periods of time)! It seems like I get the most "rest" when I can sleep for 4 hours straight- and of course I have to wake up on my own- if someone wakes me- the day drags!

Don't know about more organized and thinner - but I am definently an 8 - 9 hour person.
LEss than that I am not near as productive!

The only thing I can think of is maybe trying to adjust your schedule by going to bed 15 minutes earlier every night for a week, then 15 minutes earlier the next week, etc.
But if there's no need get up early, why not stay on your current schedule? If my ds slept later than 6 Am, I would go to bed later, too.

jnbythesea! THANK YOU!!! THIS IS A POST I NEEDED TO READ!!!
I am soooooooo needing to get more sleep. I am a night owl and i can stay up easily to one or two in the morning. I usually am on the computer or catching up on my tv shows. Then i get up at 7:30.
I made myself go to bed last night at 11. I really want to try to get to bed at 10 on a regular basis so i can get up at 6 or 6:30 to go to the gym and still feel rested. I hate getting out of bed in the morning though so we shall see if i get to the gym or not. For this week though i am going to make sure i am in bed no later t han 11.
Thanks for reminding me the importance of sleep.
